We organized the Critical Assessment for Protein Structure Prediction (CASP8) meeting in Sardinia.

Anna Tramontano was awarded the KAUST GRP (Global Research Partnership) Investigator grant for a project on the computational analysis of the human genome.

Through the GRP, KAUST, a new world-class, graduate-level research institution currently under development in Saudi Arabia, is providing individual research assistance to a group of highly accomplished scientists and engineers who are dedicated to a wide range of research topics of global significance with particular importance to Saudi Arabia and the region. Their research includes issues such as water desalination, renewable and sustainable next-generation energy sources, genomics of salt-tolerant plants, durable and environmentally friendly construction materials, sustainable utility of hydrocarbons, low-cost high-efficiency solar technology, and the application of computational science to human health and biotechnology.

Our research will contribute to KAUST's research agenda by accelerating scientific discovery in the biosciences, primarily with respect to human health, but also by contributing to biotechnology and nanotechnology developments important for the regional and global environment, ecology, and biodiversity.  We will also actively work to foster scientific exchange and contribute to KAUST graduate education through the development of joint interdisciplinary activities bringing together expertise in advanced computational techniques, applied mathematics, molecular engineering, and the biosciences.
